Sean Ng

Manager

As a Senior Consultant at Empact, Sean Ng works with corporations and government agencies to develop, implement, and deliver skills-based volunteering programs that address the various needs of social organisations.

Prior to joining Empact, Sean gained valuable experience in leading volunteering programs. He played a key role in reinforcing effective volunteer initiatives to enhance volunteers’ capabilities and collaborated with community partners and inter-ministry agencies to develop meaningful outreach programs.

Sean’s first-hand experience in understanding the value of volunteering has been instrumental in his current role. This experience reinforces his belief in how channeling the right skills and resources provided by volunteers can effectively benefit the growth and sustainability of social organisations.

What Sean loves most about his job at Empact is the dynamic nature of his work. He enjoys working on different projects, meeting diverse people, and, most importantly, being part of a movement that creates lasting impact for social organisations. He values working with a sense of purpose, being kind, and providing support to others in both good and difficult times.

Outside of work, Sean enjoys watching theater plays and documentaries, playing football, bowling, and volunteering.

Johnny Goh

CFO

Johnny brings with him over 20 years of experience in finance and accounting, including auditing, taxation, banking, corporate finance, regional exposure, private equity investment, corporate governance and public listed entity.

Empowering to impact, Johnny hopes to see the social sector supported with more efficient allocation of resources to enable a virtuous cycle of benefits to our society.

Johnny holds a Bachelor Degree in Accountancy from Nanyang Technological University and is a Chartered Accountant of Singapore. He is also involved in community and charitable causes for the promotion of education, medical and poverty alleviation etc.

Reta Rajakumar

Associate

Reta is an Associate at Empact’s Shared Services Team, where she does internal finance, administration, and external client-facing work supporting social organisations with their finances. She holds a Diploma in Molecular Biotechnology and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy at SUSS. Her prior job backgrounds are from private and public sectors, where she discovered her keen interest in Accountancy.

One thing she loves most about her job is the people she works with. The team at Empact is incredibly supportive and passionate about what they do, which makes every day a joy to come to work. She values the opportunity to work with social organisations and is driven by the core value of treating everyone with kindness, which fuels her work toward creating positive change.

Beyond her work and school, she loves to crochet and spend quality time with her family. If you see her crocheting at Sembawang Beach, its most likely that she has already been there for hours.

Yang Shun Yu

Senior Executive

Shun Yu is a Senior Executive in our Shared Services team. She supports social organisations with various finance functions such as accounting, bookkeeping, management reporting, finance process advisory, and payroll. In addition to her client-facing work, Shun Yu is also actively involved in the publicity of Ka-ching (Empact’s donor management system). With vast experience in the commercial sector, Shun Yu brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role.

What she loves most about her job and working at Empact is handling different clients’ portfolios, as there is always something new to experience everyday. She finds it fulfilling to support clients out there striving with good intentions for the community and environment. Additionally, she appreciates the flexible working hours and values the fact that there is no individualism working in Empact. Everyone contributes their part towards the same goal.

Outside of work, she enjoys yoga, trekking/hiking, walking in nature, and exploring palatable food. In both her personal and professional life, she strives to be a positive person in action, words, and thoughts, as she believes it influences people around her and the environment positively.

Wallace Kok

Senior Executive

Wallace is our Shared Service Senior Executive, where he handles Empact’s internal business operations (Finance and Admin).

Prior to Empact, Wallace had experience in an outsourcing accounting firm and the commercial sector. With this background, he has the adaptability, resourcefulness and problem-solving skills to face work challenges.

Wallace hopes to find more job satisfaction and fulfillment in contributing back to society by helping clients to streamline their process through digital technologies and allowing organisations to focus on their social mission.

Outside of work, Wallace enjoys jogging, hiking and spending quality time with family.

Rosalind Roslan

Senior Executive

Being an Executive for Shared Services, Rosalind manages accounting and payroll portfolios for clients where they may require support. She hopes to build meaningful relationships as well as be a reliable and resourceful connector by aiding social service organisations in their missions.

Starting out as a volunteer at Empact back in 2017 while completing her bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Rosalind has proven her skills through commitment and hard work by becoming an essential team member. Working at Empact has allowed her to have a work-life balance while also finding purpose in impactful work.

When she is not ‘busy being busy’, you will find her trying new sports and having outdoor adventures or nestling with a book in her hand. Two quotes that she always lives by: “Enjoy the little things” and “Don’t be afraid to try things twice”.

Budi Harto

Manager

As a Client Manager in our Shared Services team, Budi services a list of clients for their accounts, taxes, payroll and process improvement.

Budi’s experience in the accountancy field spans over more than 10 years, including 7 years at professional firms, having worked in the areas of audit and financial reporting. He also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting from University of Indonesia.

With an accounting and financial background, he has the adaptability, resourcefulness and problem-solving skill to face work challenges and help clients meet their organisational, financial and social objectives. He enjoys interacting with clients and finds it fulfilling when he is able to identify and solve complex accounting issues and develop innovative solutions to help them achieve their financial and social goals. He hopes to continue contributing to social organisations by providing reporting, transparency and adherence to laws.

Outside of work, Budi enjoys watching Netflix (big fan of Big Bang Theory!), playing badminton or jogging, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Estela Cano

Manager

Estela graduated from Holy Angel University with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. After spending some time in Singapore as part of her earlier role, she took the step to work in Singapore on a permanent basis. Estela was initially hired as a Finance and HR Executive in a Print Media company. Later, she took on a bigger role to also monitor the Design, Production and Distribution sections. This made her more flexible in managing people and the company’s transactions in different sections for 7 years.

She joined Empact in November 2014 to support the team’s internal Finance and HR. Currently, Estela does full-time client servicing and helps social organisations in their accounts, payroll and process improvement. As she works with many interns and volunteer students, she is also somewhat fulfilling her dream of teaching university students.

After office hours, she spends most of her time serving in a Catholic/Christian community here in Singapore. She also enjoys playing badminton, cooking, and strumming her guitar.

Justin Lai

Analyst

Justin is part of the Advisory Team as an Analyst, providing support for desktop research and data collection. He has a diverse career background, previously working at an arts project on street pianos to an anime studio startup among others. As a Neurodivergent person with Asperger’s, Justin is passionate in empowering the underserved, especially for causes in special needs and mental health. He cherishes the opportunity to work with a supportive and liked-minded community at Empact that strives to make society more equitable.

Justin’s alter-ego outside the office can be found reading comics, discussing comics at meetups, and attending comics and anime conventions. To get out of his geeky filter bubble, he attempts exercising by hiking the mystical woods (well, just MacRitchie Reservoir).

Asyiqin Ashik

Associate Consultant

Being in both the Marketing and Corporate Partnerships teams, Asyiqin’s day-to-day tasks include planning corporate volunteering programmes, running email campaigns and designing social media content.

Despite graduating with a degree in the design field, Asyiqin spent the past 2 years building her career in the public service and social space in order to achieve her dream of having a more meaningful and purposeful career. Her interest in the social sector sparked during her period of study, where she was involved in several local and overseas community programmes. Putting her strength and passion together, Asyiqin believes that we can use technology and media to evoke and promote positive social change.

Outside of work, you can’t find Asyiqin anywhere as she will be at home, watching Korean dramas on Netflix and cuddling with her 2 cats, Enoki and Nemo.

Fiena Anastasia

Principal Consultant

As a Principal Consultant with the Impact and Strategy team at Empact, Fiena manages and delivers diverse projects for organisations and partners in the social sector.

Prior to joining Empact, Fiena had been a Consultant and Project Manager in a number of management consulting firms, bringing in a broad suite of consulting experience across Employee & Stakeholder Opinion Survey, Job Analysis, HR Audit, Organisation Diagnostics, Job Evaluation, Compensation & Benefits, Workload Analysis, Accountability Matrix, People & Data Analytics, etc. She was also an experienced trainer in Korn Ferry Hay Group’s public & in-house training.

Having an interest in volunteering, she then switched gears to the social sector and has been finding a lot of opportunities for capacity building in the sector. Working at Empact has allowed her to continuously learn and deliver interesting and diverse projects, while also creating impact!

She has broad consulting and capability building expertise, including Business & Strategy Transformation, Human Capital Transformation, Volunteer Resources Optimisation, Fundraising and Grant Management, Technology Adoption, Market Research and Data Analytics. She is also an Accredited Social Impact Practitioner with Social Value International and part of the AVPN Expert Collective in the region contributing her skills and expertise to various opportunities for the social investment community.

Trying her best to have a balanced life, Fiena often explores new salad bars and sticks with her yoga practice. She is also a big fan of picnics, coffee, and long walks.

Cheryl Sin

Associate Consultant

Cheryl is an Associate Consultant in the Advisory team at Empact. Apart from providing advisory services in the digital and youth sectors to external clients, she is involved in Empact’s programme evaluation services within the disability sector. Having a strong interest in social sector spaces and being an advocate for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Cheryl uses her knowledge, inquisitive mind and passion to contribute to her purposeful work in this role.

In hoping to build a fair and inclusive society, working at Empact has fuelled Cheryl with the exposure and knowledge about the gaps within the social sector – which enables her to help work to plug these gaps.

Outside of work, you can find Cheryl at the track or on the road, spending long hours running, and exploring new running routes around Singapore and overseas!

Benjamin Wong

Senior Consultant

Benjamin is a Senior Consultant with the Impact and Strategy team at Empact. He partners with social service agencies and organisations in co-creating solutions to enhance their capacity to serve the community.

Prior to joining Empact, Benjamin worked as a Social Worker and journeyed alongside a diverse group of clients through their personal challenges. His Social Work experience spans across several roles – Casework & Counselling with a Family Service Centre and a Transitional Shelter, as well as piloting a Youth-at-Risk programme. He has acquired first-hand understanding of societal needs, both from the perspectives of the community and the social service agencies involved.

Benjamin’s background includes a degree in Business Management, a Training & Development role in the healthcare sector, and an Advanced Certification in Training & Facilitation. He enjoys the analytical and evaluative processes presented to him in this role and hopes to continue to be a catalyst for positive change at any level.

Outside of work, Benjamin thrives on being outdoors and in nature. He is passionate about rock climbing, motorcycles and is known for drinking way too much caffeine. His personal achievements include completing the fabled Naval Diving Unit “Hell Week” during his National Service and hiking the Annapurna Circuit.

Bryan Choong

Principal Consultant

Bryan is a Principal Consultant with the Impact and Strategy team at Empact. In his role, he collaborates with social service agencies and social enterprises to support their work for the under-served communities.

Bryan spent more than a decade in his professional life working on community health issues in Singapore. He believes in empowering, mobilising and tapping communities’ knowledge and experiences to address social issues. He is also passionate about collaborating with diverse stakeholders such as funders, researchers and policymakers to create and implement evidence-based solutions.

He is experienced in community programme development, implementation and evaluation, and is highly skilled in designing and implementing qualitative research, conducting evaluation and working with volunteers.

Bryan received a Chevening scholarship from the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2017 for his outstanding work in the non-profit sector in Singapore. He also has a Master in Public Health from the University of Edinburgh and a Master in Counselling from the University of South Australia.

When he is not cracking his brain designing solutions for his clients, Bryan spends too much time Netflixing, snacking, swimming and volunteering for social causes he believes in.

As a Senior Executive in our Shared Services team, Wee Tiong supports social organisations by helping them with accounting, financial reporting, processing of payrolls and other shared service functions. He also responds to their accounting or audit queries, supports them with digitising processes and works on process re-engineering their existing procedures.

Prior to Empact, Wee Tiong was an auditor and has 4 years of experience as an accountant leading a finance team – which has allowed him to better understand his client’s needs, close accounts and execute his tasks.

Working at Empact has enabled him to do his part in contributing to the community and creating a positive impact by building up the capabilities of social organisations. Outside of work, Wee Tiong enjoys cycling, playing badminton and exploring food around Singapore with friends.

Mandy Chng

Consultant

Strategy & Client Solutions

Mandy is a Consultant with the Strategy and Client Solutions team at Empact. She collaborates with organisations in the social sector to build on their capacities and support their work.

Prior to joining Empact, Mandy was a Programmes and Events Coordinator in a non-profit organisation that aims to empower marginalised women. Through her work with community organisations, she gained experience in programme management, grassroots development, and research-based advocacy in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Mandy also worked as an Associate at a research consultancy, executing mixed methodology studies that focused on public communications and engagement. She continues to volunteer for local and regional organisations that champion mental health and wellbeing for youths. Her experience in the non-profit and consulting sectors has enabled her to develop skills in project management, stakeholder engagement, research, and policy development.

Working at Empact gives her the opportunity to pursue her passion for making a positive impact and building a more equitable and inclusive society. Outside of work, Mandy enjoys attending concerts and music festivals, watching true crime documentaries, and unwinding with Nintendo Switch games.

Mindy Ong

Chief of Staff

As our Chief of Staff, Mindy covers strategic planning, marketing, organisational development and knowledge & solutions at Empact.

Coming from the public sector, Mindy has worked in policy and operational roles across a variety of areas, including working with low income families and those with complex needs, coordination and service management of social services, helping vulnerable workers with their employability challenges, and dealing with problem gambling issues. This has given her an in-depth understanding of the social sector, enabled her to use a strategic lens to assess issues, and honed her skills in building strong partnerships to achieve outcomes.

Recognising that many of our pressing social needs require cross-sector collaboration and the role the private sector can play in addressing them, she joined Empact to contribute to this purpose and to explore ways of working across sectors that can create scalable, sustainable social impact.

On the side, she has volunteered for many years with persons with intellectual disability, and also does some skills-based volunteering with non-profits in the US. In her free time, she likes to go for nature hikes and read murder mysteries.

Aarthi Avinash

Aarthi works as a part-time consultant at Empact as part of the Human Resources (HR) team. Having worked for about 11 years in the corporate sector, she leverages her experience in HR Operations, Process Management, Relationship Management and Risk Management to add value in her roles at Empact.

With a strong passion for giving back to society, Aarthi hopes to make a difference in the lives of other people through her contributions at Empact. Additionally, she works as a service-based volunteer with Serangoon Moral Family Services Centre, where she spends a few hours every week befriending senior citizens.

Aarthi is the proud mother of 2 lovely kids. She enjoys spending time with them and takes her role as a parent very seriously. As a fitness enthusiast, she works out 3-4 days a week. She also loves to cook and enjoys watching Hollywood and Bollywood movies.

Reuban Gan

Senior Consultant

Reuben is a Senior Consultant at Empact, focusing on the intersection of Digital and Social Impact.

He’s currently a Programme Manager for YouthTech – an initiative by MCCY & NYC to support 500 Youth with acquiring digital skills through a placement in the social sector, while concurrently supporting social sector organisations with much sought-after digital manpower in a post-Covid world.

Prior to Empact, he was a Digital Marketing Consultant at the Pink Triangle Foundation in Malaysia. He’s also worked as a Digital Marketing & E-Commerce Director for PYO Travel and worked in Global Brand Management at Unilever & L’Oreal. His key skills are Programme Management, Go-To-Market Strategy & Product Marketing. Reuben holds a BSc Philosophy and Economics from LSE & an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Working at Empact has been enjoyable as he is able to work with a team of like-hearted people to achieve greater social impact. Outside of work, he enjoys singing karaoke, watching RuPaul’s Drag Race, and finding new vegetarian food haunts.

Parnita Rane

Principal Consultant

Corporate Partnerships

Parnita is a Principal Consultant at Empact, focusing on operational advisory and corporate solutions. She works with multiple corporations, social service organisations and government agencies, to match and solve their key needs. She works on several skills-based volunteering programmes, new programme design, implementation of projects and provides advisory services to our clients.

Passionate about ground up action, she has prior experience in youth capacity building and social innovation. Prior to Empact, Parnita founded a social enterprise called ChangeBug, focusing on capacity building of youth using social innovation and community engagement as a means to encourage them to start their own social initiatives. She worked with more than 40 social organisations and trained more than 200 youths through their programme. She started her career as a a financial analyst and has also been a business coach and mentor to several early and growth stage social enterprises, both in India and Singapore.

An ardent dog lover, Parnita has completed her Bachelors in Management Studies and Masters in Commerce from India.

Kristin Cheang

Marketing & Communications

Kristin is our marketing & communications person. Apart from providing event support and being our resident photographer, she spends her time ideating for our social media pages, writing and curating content for Empact’s website, and supporting various communication efforts, both internally and externally. Having dabbled in copywriting and content strategy while at a social media advertising agency previously, Kristin uses her knowledge of social media strategy, visual storytelling and punny copies to her advantage in this role.

In trying to live purposefully, working at Empact has been fulfilling in enabling her to use her interests in content creation and marketing to indirectly help build the capacity of social organisations and create greater social impact.

Outside of work, you can find Kristin eating her way through her must-try food list, trying to keep up a regular jogging schedule to balance out what she has eaten, or watching some soppy Korean dramas.

Elysia Chan

Consultant

Corporate Partnerships

As part of the Corporate Partnerships team, Elysia works with corporate clients to design, plan and deliver end-to-end corporate volunteering projects mostly in the form of skills-based volunteering. She also works with social organisations to understand their organisational challenges and facilitate the matchmaking process with suitable skilled volunteers and programmes.

Elysia has extensive experience in youth development and mentoring. She has worked closely with children and at-risk youths from underprivileged communities in the region which spurred her curiosity to venture into the social impact space with the desire to build the capacity of social organisations. She hopes to play a part in building an ecosystem of cross-sector collaboration to channel resources to where is most needed, and to empower a culture of knowledge sharing to create sustainable social change.

Prior to Empact, she had spent time in the education space in China designing public speaking & debate curriculum and coaching students and young professionals effective communication and critical thinking skills. She believes that learning is a lifelong process and actively seeks out opportunities to challenge her comfort zone. Elysia has a profound interest in causes relating to poverty alleviation and social inclusion and continues to volunteer outside of work in her personal capacity.

Clara Seit

Clara is a Consultant within the Corporate Partnerships team. On the daily, you will find her multi-tasking project design, planning or execution. She enjoys managing stakeholders to pursue objectives that make a difference in the long-term. The most enriching aspect of her job is collaborating with corporate partners to extend their impact to the third sector in the APAC region, and witnessing the satisfaction experienced by corporate volunteers and leaders of social organisations.

Clara’s education, work and volunteering experiences have shaped her understanding of her work at Empact. She holds a BA in Public Policy and Global Affairs from Nanyang Technological University and a MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics. She brings with her professional experiences in a law firm, an intergovernmental organisation and a non-profit in Singapore. Working in the public sector in New York and a charity in London have opened her eyes to the pervasive and prevalent development issues faced globally, convincing her of how Empact’s work contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals in a unique way.

As a Christian, Clara strives to work hard with a joyful attitude even under tricky circumstances. Outside of work, she loves baking, exercising, photography and hiking, but most of all, deep down, she believes in a permanent, complete solution to development issues – the gospel.

Lee Lay Koon

As a Shared Services Senior Executive in Empact, Lay Koon manages bookkeeping and payroll portfolios for various clients.

Prior to Empact, Lay Koon had prior experience in an outsourcing accounting firm and also branched out into the commercial sector. With this background, she is familiar with various industries and different functions.

In her current role, Lay Koon hopes to find more job satisfaction and fulfilment in contributing to society by helping clients take care of their bookkeeping as much as she can with her accounting knowledge.

In her free time, she enjoys playing video games and even used to take part in the ISCA gaming competitions as a captain. She also loves doing aquascaping as a hobby, creating pretty homes for different fishes!

Janyn Sen

Senior Executive

Shared Services & HR

Janyn is a Senior Executive at Empact; her day-to-day involves wearing multiple hats – running the internal business operations (Finance, HR, and Admin) and working alongside her fellow Shared Services team members and accounting volunteers in building the backend capacity of social organisations (in areas such as accounting, HR, and process improvement). She is also a member of ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and holds a PhD in the area of cancer research.

Janyn enjoys working with a purpose. The opportunities she has had working in social enterprises have been fulfilling – she has been able to embrace a learning and growth mindset and interact with different stakeholders, with everyone pursuing a common social impact goal.

In her free time, she gives back by volunteering and mentoring. In alignment with her work at Empact, she hopes to build the capacity of others outside work to better enable them in their different learning journeys or career paths. She currently mentors tertiary students under the Enactus programme on social entrepreneurship and organises coding bootcamps for ladies to learn coding while building web applications for non-profits.

Sia Cheng Ngee

At Empact, Cheng Ngee is involved in internal business operations supporting admin tasks and the company’s financial accounts and reporting. She is also part of the Shared Services team, where she manages clients as well as performs functions such as accounting, payroll and grant administration for them. Her experience as an Accounts Admin Executive and work in commercial banking have been beneficial in providing her a foundation for her work at Empact.

For Cheng Ngee, it has been meaningful to be able to use her accounting and administrative skills to help build the capacity of social organisations.

In her time outside of work, Cheng Ngee is a concert goer, loves to listen to music, sing, and has even achieved a Grade 6 in Violin. She also enjoys binge watching Korean dramas (she’s learnt basic Korean too), and loves eating!

Amanda Koh

Amanda is our Shared Services Senior Executive, managing accounts for various social enterprises and non-profit organisations, as well as being involved in other process improvement projects.

Having worked in an audit firm and in the commercial sector, she is well-equipped with accounting and audit experience. Fun fact: she was an Empact volunteer during her university days!

Amanda hopes to contribute to the social sector with her accounting and auditing knowledge. Amid her day-to-day schedule, she finds purpose in fulfilling client engagements and allowing organisations to focus on their social missions.

Outside work, Amanda is a foodie who works out for food! She enjoys going for jogs and fitness classes. To continue her passion in playing the Erhu since her school days, she joins the Chinese orchestra at a community centre and participates in various performances for the community.

Soma Biswas

Corporate Partnerships

As an Associate Consultant of the Corporate Partnerships team, Soma manages corporate volunteering projects with both new and existing clients. Having developed a keen interest for the social sector during her time volunteering at a youth-led social enterprise, she joined Empact with the knowledge of just how effective cross-sector collaborations can be, and the intention to forge more of such partnerships to advance the impact of Social Service Agencies.

Prior to Empact, Soma worked at Global Compact Network Singapore, the national lead agency for corporate social responsibility, where she led the expansion of youth and outreach activities, and assisted the research team in programmes designed to influence decision-making by C-suite staff of member organisations.

Outside of work, you can find Soma enjoying a workout or run, or spending quality time with her favourite furry friends.

Rachel Yeo

Associate Consultant

Corporate Partnerships

As an associate consultant in Empact, Rachel bridges the gap between the needs of non-profit organisations and social enterprises with relevant skills and knowledge from corporate clients. She strongly believes in helping small businesses grow in a robust and sustainable manner while retaining the company’s social cause at its core.

Having been a marketer for the past 3 years, Rachel has created various forms of content and marketing campaigns for Mediacorp, Chope, Eatbook, Wild Advertising, and Seedly. On the side, she and a team of volunteers help run Social Impact Catalyst, a non-profit organisation aimed at empowering social entrepreneurship and innovation among Singapore’s youth.

In her free time, Rachel binge-watches on Netflix, (tries to) learn sign language, and hopes to explore all of Singapore’s best hawker foods!

Ang Bee Lian

She is the current Director-General of Social Welfare at the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). As part of her statutory appointment by MSF, she also provides independent views and advice on the standards of social service practitioners in the sector. Bee Lian was formerly the Chief Executive Officer of the National Council of Social Service. She has served in various capacities in policy and operations in social policy and social services. She has experience in the areas of policy and operations of family, children and youth work, eldercare, disability, community work and statutory social services.

Bee Lian was the Visiting Expert at the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders in Japan. She won the Outstanding Social Worker Award in Singapore in 2000. In 2003, she was among the winners of the Leader Mentor’s awards given out as part of the Global Leadership and Mentoring Congress in Singapore. She is currently involved in a range of inter-disciplinary committees on human services. She was also a Member of the 2010 Censorship Review Committee and a current Member of the Films Appeal Committee.

Seet Kai Li

Consultant

Knowledge & Solutions

After straddling between Corporate Partnerships and Knowledge & Solutions (K&S), Kai Li is currently a Consultant for K&S, the newest (and smallest) team in Empact. In that role, she looks into codifying Empact’s knowledge into programmes, tools and frameworks that aim to advance the capacity of the sector. She also leverages her experience in working with different teams to propose initiatives that enable more efficient internal knowledge sharing .

Prior to Empact, Kai Li conducted qualitative research for the National Council of Social Service. The insights were key to evaluate two pioneering programmes aimed at improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities.

Outside of work, she spends time designing initiatives with SMU’s (her alma mater) Peer Helpers Alumni Committee to bridge and connect existing students with the alumni.

Whether it’s during or outside of work, Kai Li enjoys bubble tea and have converted colleagues and friends around her to be equally addicted. In her free time she is either catching up with all-things-Korean,Shark Tank… or sleep.

With a keen interest in social innovation, Kai Li believes human-centered design can bring about social changes that address real needs in the society.

Hosea Lai

Advisor

Hosea strongly believes in giving back, because we have been given so much in our lives. As the Head of Social Impact (APAC) at LinkedIn, his work involves helping job seekers facing barriers connect to resources and networks to build meaningful careers.

Prior to his current position, he worked in multiple public and people sector, such as the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre where he was the Director for Volunteerism Division. At Habitat for Humanity International, he held multiple portfolios, such as the Director of Programmes for Singapore, the Regional Programme Manager, looking after Northeast Asia, and the Sichuan Earthquake Response Director, overseeing the post-earthquake recovery projects in Sichuan.

Outside of work, Hosea has worked in Myanmar working among the child soldiers, worked on Cyclone Nargis project in Myanmar, as well as tribal work in Thailand. He has volunteered locally as well as overseas, such as in Nepal and India, as well as Sri Lanka and Aceh post tsunami.

Peter Yang

Founder

CEO

Peter is the driving force behind Empact, the social enterprise he founded in 2011. Peter has become a leader not just within Empact but also in the wider Singaporean social enterprise and charitable community with his innovative thinking and passion to positively impact social organisations.

Under Peter’s leadership, Empact has developed a unique value proposition whereby Empact is able to offer affordable services to social organisations utilising a unique combination of staff and skill-based volunteers. Peter created a ‘shared-services’ platform to provide back-office functions to organisations to improve their efficiencies at a relatively lower cost. Furthermore, Peter advises corporations and grant makers in channelling talent and resources to support the capacity building of social organisations.

Since his university days, Peter has dedicated a significant portion of his time working with different sectors to create valuable community engagement programmes and has been an advisor or volunteer to various non-profit organisations. This community spirit was continued into his initial professional career with PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”) where he worked for more than 8 years leaving PwC in the capacity of a Senior Manager.

Mei Ling Foo

Volunteer Manager

As Empact’s Volunteer Manager, Mei Ling is responsible for volunteer recruitment, engagement and welfare. She conceptualises and executes Empact’s volunteering programmes which include sectorial workshops, dialogues with thought leaders and learning journeys.

Mei Ling was a long-term volunteer with a social organisation. She has extensive experience in the banking sector, ranging from customer service to training strategy and risk management, From her experience working with a local bank’s distribution network of 600 staff, she learnt to appreciate the diversity that working with different volunteers bring.

Mei Ling believes non-human animals have as much right to the earth as humans, and hopes to be able to do more against their exploitation and abuse.

Jiali Lu

Principal Consultant

Strategy & Client Solutions

Jiali supports the team by developing, managing and evaluating programmes, helping to strengthen Empact’s position as an intermediary between skills-based volunteers and social organisations.

After graduating from the National University of Singapore with a social sciences degree, Jiali furthered her interests in social psychology and organisational development by pursuing a career in the public sector. There, she had the opportunity to develop national programmes for youths and support the growth of the youth sector and its sector partners.

Jiali believes in the potential of creative arts and dance to positively impact the larger community, and spends time mentoring youths in her church.

Andrew Ong

Corporate Partnerships & Marketing, Lead

With his responsibility to cultivate networks and forge partnerships for Empact, Andrew heads the Corporate Partnerships team that matches corporate volunteering opportunities with the needs of social organisations. He also leads Empact’s Marketing team.

Andrew has over 15 years of experience in marketing, communications, advertising and business development in the private, people and public sectors. He started his professional career in the social sector with a charity before joining various non-governmental organisations in relation to industry development and sustainability. Later, he relocated to Vietnam to head a Singapore-based advertising agency as its general manager, and his advertising career continued when he returned to Singapore in 2015.

As he approached his ‘half-time’, the opportunity to join Empact was one Andrew was not going to miss as it was a step towards making the second half of his life more purposeful than the first.

Apart from his work with Empact, Andrew is an active advocate for ex-offenders and youths-at-risk. He serves on the board and committees of various social organisations such as the Architects of Life and The New Charis Mission’s Unlabelled Run.

Jessica Wong

Client Services Executive

Jessica is part of the Shared Services team whom she calls ‘stewards’ of the books of charities and social enterprises. Aside from daily bean-counting, she is part of the recycling committee with hopes to reduce Empact’s waste footprint.

Living by the ethos of being curious and always learning, she tries to pick up new skills and chronicles her journey in what she calls a “Learning Journal”.

Beyond work, she is an ardent follower of Bon Appetit who shares the pain and joy of Claire Saffitz in Gourmet Makes.

Yi Lu

Board Member

She is the co-founder and CEO of Global Health Pass, a company providing word leading health care solution to Chinese patients. Yi has substantial experience in investment management and consulting in both the US and China.

Prior to her own company, Yi Lu was managing the investment portfolio of US’ wealthiest family into China. The investment portfolio she managed covered both healthcare and biotechnology. In her earlier career with Bain Capital and BCG, she accumulated investment and consulting experience in the healthcare sector. Yi holds a Masters in Business Administration from Stanford University.

Peter Yang

As the founder and executive director of EMPACT, he has successfully led EMPACT to become one of the pioneering social enterprises in the area of capacity building and skills-based volunteering.

Prior to EMPACT, Peter was a senior manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Corporate Finance practice for about 8 years. Peter has been volunteering since his university days. He was one of the pioneering batch that helped AIESEC in Mainland to obtain full membership of AIESEC international. It was through the years of his personal volunteering experiences that he discovered the gap of social organisations in the area of talents and skills to scale their impact. He left his corporate job in 2011 and started EMPACT.

Joel Bashevkin

Advisor

Director of Social Ventures at Tides where he leads an expert team that delivers critical strategic and operational services to hundreds of social entrepreneurial organisations.

Joel brings an entrepreneurial, innovative approach to building strong cross sector collaborations with a passion for creating social impact, locally and globally. He presents, mentors and consults frequently to a wide range of audiences on the topics of pro bono, volunteerism, board development, nonprofit leadership, capacity building, corporate social responsibility strategy and social impact through cross sector partnerships.

During his three decades in the nonprofit sector, he has led and consulted to organisations undergoing tremendous growth and organisational development. He has also served on nonprofit boards and has consulted to organisations working in the areas of arts, disability, public health, domestic poverty and hunger.

Shahrin Selamat

Director

Knowledge & Solutions

Prior to being an Adjunct Consultant with Empact, Shahrin was its Director of Strategy & Client Solutions.

Shahrin has been involved in youth developmental programs since his days at NUS. In 2008, he began his four years at the National Youth Council where he oversaw the resource and program development work for the youth sector. He has worked with national committees helmed by Members of Parliament in steering the work across different national and community agencies.

At Empact, Shahrin has led various advisory projects for corporations, government, and social service organisations. Over the years, Shahrin has built proficiency in design thinking methodologies, programme evaluation, and social impact measurements.

He also possess the Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) and is qualified up to the Master of Training & Development from the joint venture of Griffith University and SkillsFuture Singapore.

Lingzhi Xing

As an Associate Consultant at Empact, Lingzhi supports the team in programmes for social organisations and corporate clients.

Lingzhi is interested in corporate social responsibility, sustainability and multi-sector collaboration and believes that the different sectors need to work together to enable long-term, systemic changes. In her undergraduate thesis, she explored the role of intermediaries in institutionalising corporate sustainability in Singapore. Previously, Lingzhi was an intern at a sustainability consultancy firm, where she was involved in sustainability reporting projects and a campaign for an environmental i-NGO. Her prior experience also includes startups and the hospitality sector, where she worked in marketing, customer experience, human resources and events.

Lingzhi holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from National University of Singapore, with a major in Sociology.

Anh Nguyen

Senior Consultant

Anh is currently working at Empact as an IT Consultant for internal and client projects. She started her career as an Auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers, managing clients from both commercial and non-profit sector. Subsequently, Anh worked closely with start-ups where she provided consultancy in business strategy, process optimisation and setting up of technological solutions for e-commerce and fin-tech businesses.

Anh holds a Master in Business Administration and is a member of CPA Australia.

Cui Chunhao

Assistant Manager

Chunhao works as a client servicing senior executive for Empact. He brings with him his professional expertise from his time in Deloitte, as well as a passion to learn about consulting in the social sector.

Chunhao has always been interested in the social sector in university, engaging in various OCIP programmes as well as working on projects with local NGOs. He was also involved in leading a team of students on a study programme pertaining to developmental studies to the Philippines.

Chunhao holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accountancy) from National University of Singapore.
